Do I need my iPhone?

Not while you are using it. This is a standalone watchOS app: it runs on the Apple Watch on its own, with the phone switched off or left behind. You do need an iPhone once, to purchase and install it — that is an App Store rule rather than anything about this app.

Questions

How accurate is it?

It is a consumer-grade reading from the watch microphone, good for comparing environments and spotting genuinely dangerous levels. It is not a calibrated Class 1 sound level meter and should not be used for compliance work.

How loud is too loud?

As a rough guide, sustained exposure above 85 dB carries risk, and the safe exposure time roughly halves for every 3 dB above that.

Do I need my iPhone?

No.

Does it log readings over time?

It is built for instant readings rather than continuous logging.
