Sometimes you need a note, not an instrument: checking a pitch, working out an interval, or catching a melody before you forget it.

Grand Piano for Watch on Apple Watch — screen 1

What it does

Do I need my iPhone?

Not while you are using it. This is a standalone watchOS app: it runs on the Apple Watch on its own, with the phone switched off or left behind. You do need an iPhone once, to purchase and install it — that is an App Store rule rather than anything about this app.

Questions

Can you really play music on a watch screen?
For single notes, intervals and short melodies, yes. It is a reference and sketching tool, not a performance keyboard.
Does it need my iPhone?
No, it runs standalone.
Can I use Bluetooth headphones?
Yes, and they sound considerably better than the watch speaker.
How many octaves are available?
You can scroll through the full range of a grand piano rather than being limited to one fixed octave.
