TV App Development

TV apps are built for a remote, a sofa and a screen three metres away. Focus management, remote-first navigation and smooth video playback matter more than anything else. As a Senior Software Developer at Paramount, I work on the Paramount+ app for Amazon Fire TV Stick and Fire TV on Vega OS, including architecture decisions, reusable cross-platform components and animations.

FAQ

Common questions

Something else? Ask me directly .

Which TV platforms do you develop for?

Amazon Fire TV (including Vega OS), Apple TV (tvOS) and Android TV. The right mix depends on where your audience watches.

Can a TV app share code with our mobile app?

Often, yes. With React Native, business logic, API clients and parts of the UI can be shared between mobile and TV, while navigation and layouts are built for the remote.

What is Vega OS?

Vega OS is Amazon’s operating system for newer Fire TV devices. Apps for it are built with React Native, which is exactly the stack I use on the Paramount+ Fire TV app.

What is hardest about TV app development?

Focus management and performance. Every element must be reachable with arrow keys in a predictable order, and the app has to stay smooth on inexpensive streaming sticks.
